The Pearson correlation between the rank of a college and its in-state tuition was − 0.36 (p < 0.005), indicating that higher-ranked colleges were more expensive. We segmented the colleges into the categories of private or public. The Pearson correlation between rank and in-state tuition was − 0.65 (p < 0.005) for private colleges, and − 0.34 (p < 0.005) for public colleges
